Minor boy injured in Chandel firing

A 12-year old boy sustained bullet injury in a firing incident allegedly involving Assam Rifles (AR) personnel on Friday at Beaulahram Village under Tengnoupal Police Station, Chandel District.
According to sources, two persons suspected to be personnel of 26 Sector Assam Rifles came in civvies and tried to nab one UG suspect in Beaulahram Village.
While trying to arrest the suspect, the AR personnel and the suspect got into a scuffle and suddenly a bullet was fired from the gun of one of the AR men.
The bullet hit the other AR personnel on his upper limb and it pierced through his body and hit the minor in the abdomen.
The minor was around the spot of the incident, said sources.
The minor victim has been identified as one M Edwin (12), son of M Tolkham of Beaulahram Village.
He was immediately rushed to Jeevan Hospital, Kakching and was later referred to the Shija Hospital, Imphal.
He is stated to be in a critical condition.

The boy is said to be a student of Class VII at St Paul High School, Liwachangning.
According to an eye-witness account, local residents came out as they heard the firing.
Later, one Alto Car bearing registration number MN 05H 3642 reached the spot and picked up all those involved in the incident .
A reliable source informed that the injured AR personal has been identified as one Tomba alias Nabachandra, riflemen of 26 Sector AR.
He was immediately airlifted to Army Hospital, Leimakhong by a chopper.
Irate local residents also set on fire to one motor cycle bearing registration number MNO 6S A9426 which was suspected to be used by the AR personnel.
Irate local women folk of Beaulahram Village also tried storming into the 26 Sector AR complex protesting against the ill treatment meted out to civilians in the area.
The protestors demanded handing over the AR personnel to the public.
Later, four women were allowed to meet the CO of 20 Assam Rifles under 26 Sector AR.
Report said the AR CO assured support to the victim's family members including the cost of the treatment for the injured minor.
In connection with the incident, a public meeting was held at Beaulahram Community hall in the presence of Chandel ADC Member Ksm Mathew Maring; ADC member MK Kopham; Chandel Naga Peoples Organisation (CNPO) President Ws Kanral; Village Authorities and many other civil organisation leaders.
Meanwhile, another source informed that on hearing about an extortion incident in the Pallel area, 26 AR launched a counter insurgency operation in the general area of Pallel on Friday and arrested three UG cadres including one Maring Brownson Charanga.
During operation Brownson and AR personnel got into a scuffle which resulted in the firing of bullet and AR persons and one Alvi alias Edwin (12), son of Tolkham received bullet injuries.
Tolkam is the halvidar of 15 Assam Regiment of the Indian Army.
Three persons involved in extortion including MB Charanga were caught by AR personnel and all injured persons were taken to the hospital for treatment.
