Seram Mangi remembered

Imphal, December 11 2013:
Former News Editor of All India Radio (AIR), Imphal and veteran journalist Seram Mangi was fondly remembered on his first death anniversary during a commemorative function organised by Seram Mangi Singh Foundation at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound here today.
The function was attended by CAF&PD and Education Minister M Okendro as Chief Guest and eminent writer and lyricist B Jayentakumar as President, while President of Irabot Foundation L Iboyaima and retired IAS officer P Bharat as Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Okendro hailed Seram Mangi as a dedicated journalist of the State who had worked relentlessly to bring a change in the society.

Dwelling on the education system of the State, he said that the centrally sponsored schemes of SSA and RMSA have brought a reformation to the State's education system.
The higher education sector of the State would also get an impetus with the implementation of RUSA.
The deficient teaching staffs in the colleges would also be appointed in strict accordance to UGC guidelines under RUSA, he noted.
As a part of the observance, Prof W Nabakumar of MU delivered the first Seram Mangi Memorial Lecture on the topic "School Education in Manipur" .
The first Seram Mangi Memorial Award-2013 was also presented on the occasion to senior reporter of Hueiyen Lanpao Laishram Bijoy for his outstanding contribution in rural reporting.
A souvenir was also released by the Chief Guest to mark the occasion.
Hundreds of eminent journalists, educationists and social activists of the State attended the first death anniversary of Seram Mangi and paid floral tribute to him.
