Call for promotion of script

Though Manipuri language as developed to a certain level, the Manipuri/Meetei script has lagged behind and has failed to keep in pace with development in the language, exclaimed Gangmei Shantikumar Kabui, SDO, Nambol.
Gangmei Shantikumar Kabui was speaking as Chief Guest on occasion of releasing second edition of Pandam, the first monthly journal in Meetei Mayek, at Zeliangrong Union Office, Kakhulong here today.
He informed that Meeteilon or Manipuri language has now developed but the Meetei Script has lagged far behind.
So there is the urgent need to develop Meetei Mayek as well with the co-operation of general public.
Golmei Makuchung Kabui, Editor-in-Chief of Pandam said that Pandam was brought out by late Chingsubam Akaba in 1980 as a daily newspaper with the primary objective of preserving and promoting Meetei Mayek.
But after his death, it was transformed into a monthly magazine with its first edition hitting the newsstand on November 9 this year.
R Chandra Haomei, Secretary, ZCCHC (AMN); K Kajeichungpou, Chief of Kakhulong; GA Tangpi, Treasurer, Kabui Mothers Association; K Paoshinglung, Secy, ZU (AMN) and DH Gaikhemmei, Vice Chairman, ZU, Imphal Zone were also present on the occasion.
