A 28 year old man identified as Hemam Rajesh was convicted under Section 366/368 IPC and Section 4 of the POCSO Act and October 17 has been fixed as the date for the sentence hearing.
The conviction order was passed by Special Judge, POCSO, Imphal West today.
The judgment was announced in an open Court after it was kept reserved following the final hearing on September 27.The genesis of the case dates back to 2016 after the mother of the victim lodged a complaint to Singjamei police station stating that her minor daughter aged 16 years went out from the house on April 6, 2016 and failed to return.
Following the complaint a regular case was registered.
IO of the case after completion of the investigation submitted the charge sheet under section 366/368 IPC and Section 4 of POCSO Act and charges were framed for the trial.
The charge sheet submitted by IO alleged that the minor victim was kidnapped by the convict and kept under confinement for about 20 days in two different locations.
The minor victim was ultimately rescued by Thoubal commando and handed over to Singjamei police station.
After hearing the submission of both parties at length and perusing the case record, the Court convicted Hemam Rajesh under section 366/368 IPC and Section 4 of POCSO Act and fixed October 17 for sentence hearing.
