Chandel, February 11 2015:
Following the incident where a teacher was critically injured after one of his students stabbed him yesterday, the teaching staff of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Chandel staged a sit-in-protest at the school premises at Liwa Sarei, Chandel district today.
Since morning, teaching and non teaching staff of the Vidyalaya gathered at the gate of the school holding placards inscribed with "We condemn criminal act towards teachers" "Teachers devote their life for the students", etc.
Speaking to media persons at the sideline of the protest, one of the teachers said, "the incident happened yesterday afternoon after one of our students of standard XII was sent home for his parent's counselling as the school found out that he was indulging in intoxicants.
Later, he sneaked inside the school campus and intentionally stabbed LC Alex Pammei, a PGT teacher of the Vidyalaya with a knife." While condemning the incident, the teachers appealed to the school authorities to bring an amicable solution to the problem at the earliest.
The incident has, the teacher added, developed a fear psychosis among the staff and the students as well.
LC Alex Pammei, who was admitted at RIMS Imphal the same day, was later shifted to Shija Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for further treatment.
Alex Pammei was stabbed at his abdomen inside the school premises at around 2 pm yesterday.
