Accused granted bail

Thoubal has granted bail to Khundrakpam Somorjit who was arrested in connection with the killing of a cow at Laipat Leikai in Khangabok under Thoubal district on October 2 .
As per a press release issued by L Biswajeet Meitei, Managing Trustee, People for Animals, (PFA) Manipur, on October 9, the Thoubal Police officially arrested Khundrakpam Somorjit, s/o Kh Radhamani from Leipat Leikai, Khangabok Part III and produced him before the Court of CJM, Thoubal.
He was remanded to two days police custody.
Notably, PFA, Manipur is assisting the Thoubal Police in the ongoing investigation.
Additionally, Chairperson Maneka Sanjay Gandhi has also contacted the Thoubal SP Office and appealed for sincere efforts to solve the case swiftly.
Today, the IO of the case appealed for the suspect to be given an additional 15 days in judicial custody.
Upon perusal, the CJM Thoubal ordered the bail of Kh Somorjit on execution of Rs 70,000 surety bond as there is lack of solid proof to corroborate the accused's hand in the incident and the suspect is also cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Notably, IO of the case had recovered 12 cartridges, a Senapati gun license and one 12 bore SBBL Pump Action Gun from the residence of Khundrakpam Somorjit.
He is currently serving as a Havildar in the Assam Regiment, as per PFA.
On October 8, the seized items were sent to Forensic Laboratory, Pangei to be compared with the gun casing used in the shooting incident.
The Court has prohibited Kh Somorjit from travelling outside the State without the Court's permission.
