Heeyang Tanaba organised at Lamlai Salampat

Celebrating Heikru Hidongba, the 7th Heeyang Tanaba (boat race) was organized yesterday at Salampat, Lamlai.
The event was organised by Ema Emoinu Thougal Thousil Kanglup (EETHAK), Kangleipak with the objective to preserve and promote indigenous traditions and culture.
Bishnupur AC MLA Govindas Konthoujam, Lamlai Municipal Council Chairperson RK Memmi Devi, Khangabok AC MLA Surajkumar Okram, Lamlai Kendra Development Committee (LKDC) advisor Achoibam Deben Singh and social worker Sh Presorjit Sharma attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the function, Govindas underscored the importance of inculcating the rich cultures, traditions and values handed down by the forefathers.
He further exuded that organizing Heeyang Tanaba will go a long way in promoting indigenous culture and encouraged younger generations to learn the rich cultural heritage of the State.
Describing Lamlai as a scenic land, he asked the organising committee to hold the event at State level to attract wider audience and tourists.
Altogether 18 teams from various parts of Imphal competed in the boat race.
Apart from conducting rituals of Heikru Hidongba, folk songs presented by artistes marked the event.
Heikru Hidongba is one of the several socio-religious ceremonies performed to bring peace and prosperity in the State.
