11th death anniversary of Samerendra observed

Arambam Samarendra was remembered today on his 11 death anniversary.
Observance functions to pay homage to the renowned social activist and writer were held at various places including at Silchar and Hojai of Assam.
The main function was held at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai Social Standard Club ground where hundreds of people from different parts of the state offered floral tributes to the statue of the Samerendra erected there.
Presentation of a song written by Samerendra "Chaikhre Ngasi Nungi Labukta Nachasingi Ekhengtana" and a Moirang Kangleirol staged by the artistes of the Meetei Chanu Artistes Cum Drama Association was followed.
The observance functions were held at as many as 21 places including a lecture programme at JN Dance Academy, according to Prof Arambam Lokendro, chairman of the Arambam Samarendra Memorial Trust.
MS Prabhakara, special correspondent The Hindu, gave the lecturer on the topic "Sovereignty struggle in NE India; where are they going", he said.
A discussion on "Loumi Sinmisingda Samerendra-gi mityeng" was also organized by the All Manipur Farmers' Association at Keishampat Junction.
A symposium was also held at Manipur Press Club under the aegis of the UMO.
Manipur State Shumang Leela Council also organized another symposium.
At Jiribam, the day was observed by Jiri Development Organisation, at Hojai (Assam) by the Manipur Sahitya Parishad and at Silchar by the Manipuri Venno-villent Society, Silchar.
The Meetei Council, Hojai also observed the day.
Tera Ideal Club, Ningol Club, Taretkhul, Naorem Youth Volleyball Association, MIYUTH Club Thanga, Haokha Wangma Taba Development Association and Youth Athletic Association, Kakching Khunou organized patriot song competitions to mark the remembrance of Samerendra.
Pari Imom Kanba Lup organized a painting competition at Khurai Puthiba Shanglen.
A young talent search programme was organized by Tangkham Polestar Club, Tangkham.
Oinam Fancy Club organized a Mukna play, TAIDA, Thoubal organized a football match, a mariphat competition was organized by YDO, Kwakta and the Wabagai Youth Development Association organized a Kang play to mark the day.
