Speaking to our correspondent, the chairman of Sambu Raiping Long (SRL), Songachan Zimik refuted the District Administrator of Kamjong for not reimbursing the road clearance money for restoring the inter-villages road that was destroyed by Cyclone Remal last year.
He stated that SRL Committee had approached the Deputy Commissioner Kamjong and SDO Sahampung block for restoring the inter-village roads of Zingsui to Kachouphung village via Ronshak, Madoya, Chammu and Phungtha village, Gamnoum to Pushing village, Maka junction to Chahong Khullen and Chatric village which was destroyed by Cyclone Remal to make the road accessible.
The DC and the SDO agreed, and entrusted the SRL Committee to take up the road clearance work with verbal assurance that the money incurred in repairing the road would be reimbursed, added Songachan.
He continued that to restore the damaged roads, heavy machinery and excavators were used to clear the debris, incurring lakhs of rupees.
Ninglum Awungshi stated that regarding the repairing works done by the committee, a completion report attached with photos and estimation were also submitted to the office on time to enhance the reimbursement process.
However, despite repeated approach to the officers concerned (DC & SIX)), nothing has been done and turned deaf ear to their demand, added Awungshi.
Awungshi further stated that to execute the restoring work, they took loan to hire heavy machinery in order to complete the work on time considering the urgent need of the villagers for motorable roads to connect each village with the district headquarter.
Therefore the villagers urged the authorities concerned to adhere with their assurance and reimbursed the money incurred in the work immediately to address the economic burden faced by the villagers.
