In yet another milestone in the medical history of the district, the 3rd surgical outreach camp was conducted successful at the District hospital Tamenglong today.

As there is no specialist doctor posted in Tamenglong, surgical outreach camp is being held from time to time in Tamenglong by doctors from JNIMS, Imphal voluntarily.

Prof.& HoD of Unit I Surgical Dept.
of JNIMS, Imphal led an 18-member medical team in conducting the operation which started from 7:30 am and continued till 5:30 pm.
It may be mentioned here that the OT building of Tamenglong District Hospital was constructed under RSVY in 2006 and was inaugurated on 5 June this year.
Since then the District Health Mission Society under National Rural Health Mission has been conducting the surgical outreach camp at newly inaugurated OT building.
The first Surgical outreach camp was held on 7 June 2013 and as many as 21 patients were successfully operated.
The 2nd Surgical outreach camp was held in the month of August last and 22 patients were operated sucessfully.
With the conducting of surgical outreach camp at the district HQs, precious lives of many patients have been saved and lessen their medical burdens.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao in this connection, Dr Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer/ Mission Director of District Health Mission Society, Tamenglong, said that doctors from JNIMS have been voluntarily carrying out the surgical outreach camp taking into consideration of the difficulties and hardships faced by the people of Tamenglong, where there is inadequate medical infrastructure and manpower.
"I am indebted to JNIMS for deputing the medical team for conducting the surgical outreach camp fro time to time at such a difficult and backward place like Tamenglong district", Dr.Chambo Gonmei said.
To a query, Dr Chambo Gonmei pointed out that in order to ensure proper functioning of the OT, the district hospital requires adequate manpower like specialist doctors, nurses, paramedical staffs, etc.
Blood bank/ blood storage facility is also a must.
Nonetheless, Dr Chambo observed that it is encouraging to know that under the patronage of National Rural Health Mission of District Health Mission Society, Tamenglong has been taking various activities for the welfare of the people.
He noted that there are many people in far flung areas of the district, for whom access to even the basic medical care is still a distant dream.
So, the surgical outreach camp is an attempt to prevent unwanted incident and save the precious lives of the people.
He also expressed his sincere gratitude to the surgical team from JNIMS for conducting the surgical outreach camp successfully voluntarily in spite of of their tight schedule and after taking long journey.
