Super centenarian celebration : Meet 115 years old Mathiurongliu!

Imphal, May 09 2018: The 115th Super centenarian celebration of one Mathiurongliu Gangmei of Makhuam (Marangching) Part III, Noney district, was held at her residence today.

Even though the celebration was a small one and organised as a family function, it held great significance for Mathiurongliu Gangmei as her case is rare for a State like Manipur.

Mathiurongliu Gangmei was born in February 1903 at Marangching Nangang to Tadonang Kamei (father) and Banrungliu (mother).

She had an elder sister who passed away.

When she was 14 years old, during 1917 -1919, she left home and settled at Kharam Khun as a refugee of the Kuki rebellion.

In 1927, she married Langang Riamei and the couple were blessed with five children.

During the birth of her third child, World War II was in full swing.

In 1953, she lost her husband and she was left with her children as a widow.

Then in 1959, at age 56, she got married to Pouhoulung Gangmei and had two children from the marriage.

Today, Mathiurongliu has a son, 6 daughters, 13 grandsons, 14 granddaughters, 25 great grandsons, 24 great granddaughters, 7 great great grandsons and 5 great great granddaughters.

Speaking to The Sangai Express; one of the grandsons, Majabung Gangmei said that today's event has been organised to pray for the health of their 115 years old grandmother Mathiurongliu.

He said that her grandmother is still fully aware and in good health but as she cannot speak loudly they have to get extremely near her to understand her words.

The grandson surprisingly added that her (Mathiurongliu) grave stone was constructed in 2013 and she herself had even seen her final resting place.
