Imphal, May 09 2016:
Meetei Sanamahi Kanba Lup,
Mayanglangjing, Imphal has questioned the Deputy CM
Gaikhangam, who also holds Home portfolio and his Congress
party about being a secular party.
In a statement, the secretary of the Lup said that many
times in television, Dy CM and his party claims that they are
not like BJP, but a very secular party giving respect and
protection to all religion, but the recent incident at the temple
of Panthou Ishaikon totally contradicts himself and his party.
The Meetei temple of Panthou which is in the heart of Imphal
was burnt down, devotees beaten and more than 50 vehicles
were burnt.
The Panthou Ishaikon is built purely by donation from the
Meetei community who want to revive the lost Meetei culture.
It is built on the land belonging to Ema Lerisam.
The people
of Wangkhei Hijam Leirak has no right to dictate the devotees
as the road and the temple does not belong to them.
The issue
of Panthou temple will become a bigger issue as more bodies
who wants to revive the lost Meetei culture not only in
Manipur, but also in Tripura, Assam etc will slowly regroup
and go for non-violent approach like dharna, rally, bandh etc,
the statement added.
They are keenly watching the steps taken by the Dy CM
regarding the matter and appealed to him to use his good
office to bring an amicable solution.
