Rally decries violence against women

Imphal, December 08 2012: As part of its International Fortnight Observation Protesting Violence Against Women, Women Action for Development (WAD) joined hands with other NGOs and CSOs in the State in organizing a public rally protesting violence against women here today.

The public rally was followed by a public meeting at premises of the Yaipha Lamjing Lup, Pishumthong.

The rally which was flagged off from Meetei Artists' Union office complex at Mongsangei at around 11:30 am culminated at Yaipha Lamjing Lup in Pishumthong where the public meeting was held.

The rallyists shouted slogans like "Stop violence against women and children", "Punish the culprits involved in committing violence against women and children".

They also carried festoons and placards which read "Killing of women is a cowardly act", "We want justice", "Respect women", "Investigate into the killing at Langol" etc.

The public meeting held with National awardee Tomba, Prof Chinglen Maisnam, Manipur digital film actors G Bonny, Kaiku and Abenao as presidium members.

Sobita Mangshatabam, Secretary of WAD delivered the note address.
