Mid-Day Meal Workers threaten to lock schools

Mid-day Meal Workers' Union Manipur has threatened to lock Govt schools if pending nine months honorarium is not released to them before October 21 .
Addressing a press meet today at Manipur Press Club, Y Indrani Devi, president of the union said that there are about 6,951 cooks under Mid-day meal scheme in the State.
These cooks were paid honorarium of Rs 1000 per month .
It is very disturbing that the cooks have not been paid their honorarium for nine months now, Indrani said .
The union has submitted a representation to the PM, Union HRD Minister, Manipur CM and AITUC urging payment of pending honorarium before Ningol Chakkouba (October 21) .
The Union had also submitted a charter of demands to the State Education Minister to provide adequate facility and infrastructure .
As such, the Union decided to lock Govt schools if their demand is not met, she added.
