Central Trade Unions successfully completes first day of all India general strike

The two day all India general strike called by Central Trade Unions and Employees Associations, against the failure of the Indian Government to provide benefits for the employees and other working class people of the country, effectively and successfully completed its first day in Manipur today.
Coordinating Body of Trade Unions (CBTU) Manipur Chairman Laishram Sotinkumar, while making the above statement at Irawat Bhawan today, added that the first day of the general strike completed successfully with active support and participation from different working class sections including street vendors, Municipality cleaners of Imphal, Drivers Union and employees of bank, LIC, VDF, postal services, BSNL, Mutiya worker, pensioners, shopkeepers etc.
Different workers from different Departments including contract, casual muster roll along with ATMA workers of Agriculture Department are also endorsing the nationwide general strike, he added.
Meanwhile, around 500 Anganwadi workers organised sit in protest at Bishnupur district where minor scuffles occurred between the protesters and security forces.
In Thoubal district, ASHA workers also organised a sit in protest which was participated by mid-day-meal workers, against the "anti-labour, anti-people and anti-national policies of the BJP Government".
He then claimed that different women organisations and student organisations are fully supporting the strike adding that the strike is so far the greatest general strike in the history of Manipur with nearly 18 lakh working people, employees, organised and unorganised section participating.
Sotinkumar maintained that the strike has turned out successful as with the coming of the Modi Government, the Labour law was amended over and over again and the Indian Government has failed to uphold the rights and needs of labourers and employees and instead is opting too much FDI.
He informed that necessary steps have been made to make the second day of the strike successful adding that the strike will be relaxed for those who are to take part in the birth anniversary of Maharaja Gambhir Singh tomorrow.
The general strike will end at 6 pm tomorrow.
