Kakching, September 07 2024:
The Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO) has expressed dissatisfaction with the Government machinery for failing to take up any meaningful action in response to renewed Kuki aggression since the beginning of September.
A press release issued by Chhatadari Singh, president, JNGVO and N Bheigyachandra Singh, general secretary, JNGVO said that instead of violence easing up in the strife-torn State of Manipur, Kuki militants have upgraded from using sophisticated weapons to adopting war tactics such as drone bombing and missile strikes.
Presenting a chronology of the recent attacks by suspected Kuki militants, JNGVO said that on September 1, "Kuki terrorists" launched drone attacks at Koutruk which claimed the life of 31-year old Ngangbam Surbala and left her young daughter Rosiya with injuries, among others.
Stating that subsequent drone attacks were also launched at Senjam Chirang, JNGVO condemned the lack of response by the Government in the face of multiple offensive launched by suspected Kuki militants.
Yesterday, "Kuki terrorists" launched another drone attack at Tronglaobi followed by a surface to surface missile attack at Moirang which took the life of a senior citizen, RK Rabi, while leaving five others injured including a 13 year old girl, said JNGVO.
Even today, violence has been reported at Napat (Sugnu), Tangjeng and Jiri which have taken more lives.
JNGVO claimed that this is clear indication that the Indian Government is allowing the conflict to go on unimpeded.
Condemning the heinous attacks, JNGVO accused the Central Security Forces of conspiring against the Meitei civilians while allegedly backing Kukis as part of some hidden agenda of the Indian Government.
It further asserted that the State Government does not have the moral fibre to submit an accurate report on the ongoing "war crimes" as it appears to prioritize its office more than the lives of the people or the territorial integrity of Manipur, claimed JNGVO.
Thus, JNGVO urged the Meitei people to unite and get ready to face any eventuality, be it drone bombing, missile attacks or even chemical warfare.
Without building a consolidated people's movement, it will be difficult to save Manipur, said JNGVO.
Additionally, JNGVO called for the declaration of Kuki militants as "terrorists" and restoration of normalcy in Manipur.
On another note, the press release questioned the benefit of deploying 60,000-70,000 Central Security Forces who cannot defend the people against Kuki militants.
The JNGVO press release thus called for restoration of Manipur to its pre-merger status in the face of the State Government's inability to put pressure on the Central Government to resolve the conflict and the latter's failure to gauge the pulse of the people.
