Women street vendors demands appropriate space to conduct business

Condemning the action of city police for driving away many street vendors yesterday, a number of women street vendors today tried to storm the Chief Minister Secretariat Office at around 10.30 am today.
The women street vendors demanded the authority concerned to allow them to conduct their business in the usual manner until and unless an appropriate area or space is provided to them.
The women vendors were halted by police personnel at Kanglapat near Raj Bhavan and later, few representatives were allowed to meet the Chief Minister.
Speaking to media persons, one of the street vendor, Thoudam Ranjana stated that few days after the Chief Minister inspected the street vendors at Khwairamband Bazar, the city police, at around 9 in the morning, started shooing away the street vendors.
She lamented that the street vendors have not been able to conduct their business properly after the incident.
The women street vendors tried to storm the office to urge Chief Minister N Biren to provide an appropriate area to them and to urge him to allow the street vendors to conduct their business in the usual manner until and unless the place is provided.
She claimed that the CM, during his inspection tour, assured to take up remedial solutions for the street vendors as well as allow them to sit from early morning till 8.30 am and to continue their business from 5 in the evening onwards.
She cautioned that various form of agitations will be taken up if the State Government does not allow the street vendors to conduct their business.
Condemning the harsh manner of the city police while driving away the women street vendors who are working hard to maintain their families, she urged the authorities concerned not to repeat such incidents in the future.
