Observance of International Women's Day commences

The 2-day long International Mother's Day celebration organised by Manipur State Commission for Women commenced at the State Guest House, Sanjenthong here today.
The inaugural function of the celebration was graced by First Lady of the state Kiran Jagat and Dr L Ibetombi, Chairperson, Manipur State Commission for Women as Chief Guest and President respectively.
RK Noyonsana, Chairperson, Manipur State Social Welfare Advisory Board and Th Surbala, former District and Session Judge were also present as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Kiran Jagat pointed out that International Women's Day is a day when women are recognized for their achievements regardless of divisions and status.
It is an occasion for looking back on past struggles and accomplishments and more importantly for looking ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.
Praising Manipur State Commission for Women for working for the welfare of the women community and protecting women from domestic violence, the First Lady expressed confidence that the Commission would go ahead to achieve empowerment of women community in this male dominated society and address the grievances faced by the women.
The efforts of the Commission in this regard deserve support of all.
She further pointed out that this year's theme of "Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures" is very meaningful and timely.
If every International Women's Day event held includes girls in some way or the other, thousands of minds would be inspired globally.
"We need greater number of girls in the programmes organised by the Manipur State Commission for Women as girls are the future mothers of mankind.
Social peace and harmony depend to a great extent on their activities and moral character", Kiran Jagat observed.
