Explosions blast house of ex-UNC leader

Former United Naga Council (UNC) speaker Simthi Ruivah has been attacked with bombs near Ukhrul headquaters on Sunday.
Police said two powerful explosions went off one after another in the residential compound of the social worker in Ukhrul district of Manipur.
The bomb explosions took place at Phungreitang Kamphasom which is about three km east of Ukhrul police station in the residential compound of 55-year old social worker Simthi Ruivah at about 9:25 pm on Sunday, said a police source.
Simthi Ruivah is currently a member of Tangkhul Co-ordination Committee (TCC) .
The source added that the two bombs had been hurled by unidentified miscreants.
The bombs went off at the courtyard of Simthi's after hitting the roof of his house.
No casualties have been reported from the blasts but parts of the house bore marks of being hit by bomb splinters, said the police.
On getting information about the blasts, the local police rushed to the spot and conducted a spot inquiry.
The police after having verified the crime scene suspected the bombs to be locally made.
However, who exploded the bombs and why, remained unexplained, said the police.
