DGAR calls on CM

Lieutenant General Shokin Chauhan, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, Director General Assam Rifles, arrived today on a two day visit to inspect functioning of the Assam Rifles units deployed in different parts of the State including Jhoupi, Liemakhong and Imphal.
According to a press release issued by PRO IGAR (S), the General Officer is responsible for the well being of Assam Rifles across the country.
Accompanied by the head of Assam Rifles in Manipur, General Virendra Singh, the Director General called on Chief Minister N Biren Singh and conveyed his warm greetings and good wishes to the people of the State.
The meeting was also attended by Th Biswajit Singh, PWD Minister; Th Shyamkumar, Forest Minister; Karam Shyam, PDS Minister; Chief Secretary RR Rashmi; Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dr Suresh Babu and Ashok Kumar, Secy to the CM.
During the meeting that lasted more than an hour, the General Officer discussed the security and law and order situation in the State with the CM and assured him full cooperation by Assam Rifles to the State administration, it said.
Remembering his days in Ukhrul where he had served as a young company commander from 1989 to 1991, the General Officer explained in detail the dynamics of serving in the region as an Assam Rifles personnel.
The Chief Minister and the Director General strongly condemned the grenade blast at the Pologround yesterday and reinforced their solidarity with the troops.
Addressing the DG's concerns about the low rate of conviction of the apprehended underground cadres, the Chief Minister assured revamping of the prosecution section and taking necessary measures for faster conviction.
The DG also requested the State Government's help in maintaining a database of the insurgents caught in the State.
In the end, the CM commended the recent work done by Assam Rifles in checking the illegal smuggling of logs from the State and requested the IGAR(South) for further help on the matter, added the release.
