Monitoring Cell to step up vigil over college poll

To ensure minimization of election expenses and prevent involvement of outsiders, the Monitoring Cell of College Students' Union Election has announced its decision of stepping up vigil over the conduct of college students' union election which is scheduled on December 9 .
The Monitoring Cell has been formed jointly by six student bodies, namely, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Students' Welfare Association of Kangleipak (SWAK) and Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) to ensure free and fair election in colleges.
Talking to mediapersons at the office of SWAK at Kwakeithel here today, Convenor of the Monitoring Cell Thokchom Suresh informed that so far, 12 student candidates from five different colleges have been forced to withdraw their respective candidatures as they were found relying on money and muscle power in campaigning for the election.
Stating that the Monitoring Cell would be continue its vigil, the Convenor cautioned the candidates to comply with the laid down code of conduct for college election and asked the students to give up the habit of waiting for the candidates to come and pick them up.
He also appealed to all concerned not to call any bandh or general strike on the day of scrutiny which falls on December 7 as well as on the day of the election on December 9 .
