Child rights awareness on 14th death anniversary of Lungnila Elizabeth

Commemorating the 14th death anniversary of Baby Lungnila Elizabeth, a memorial programme cum awareness on child rights was organized by Lungnila Elizabeth School of Social Work (LESSW) in collaboration with Wide Angle Social Development and MACR Senapati chapter on Saturday at LESSW campus Senapati DHQs .
Apart from talks delivered by eminent child rights activists, panel discussion, essay and spot slogan writing competition among different school students, a tribute song was also given by Margaret.
Talks on 'Child Sexual Abuse' was delivered by Pradeep Kumar, consultant, Manipur Alliance for Child Rights and member of MCPCR while Montu Ahangthem, secretary, Wide Angle Social Development, also convener, MACR & member of MCPCR delivered a talk on 'Unsafe Migration' .
CMO Dr H Loli Mao while gracing the occasion as the chief guest lauded the courage and strength of the parents of Late Lungnila.
"Her death brought a sea of change in our mindset to create more awareness on the protection and rights of our children", he noted.
While emphasising on child rights, safety and importance of girl child in our society, the CMO elaborated on the effective implementation of "Beti Bachao Beti Badhao" programme with public support and participation.
He exhorted the participants to promote child protection awareness collectively and not only expect the Government officials and departments to implement the special programme .
Montu Ahangthem pointed out that the increasing trend of child trafficking in Manipur is a disturbing trend in which Senapati district children were also victimised on many occasions.
Recent report reads that, almost 500 children were reportedly taken for trafficking on promises of better education but landed up in horrifying situation like wage earners, prostitution, labourers and crime oriented jobs.
Here more than 60 children are recorded from Senapati till date where they are taken to metropolitan cities like New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai or Rajasthan.
