Two teachers from Manipur have been conferred the prestigious National Award to Meritorious Teachers on the occasion of the Teachers' Day Celebration held at New Delhi.
Vice President of India M Hamid Ansari presented the prestigious awards on the occasion.
Khangembam Binoy, Head Master, Tuiringphaisen Government Junior High School, and Konthoujam Sumati, Principal, TG Higher Secondary School were conferred with the national award.
Meanwhile, the Department of Education (S) today celebrated the Teachers' Day at the office complex of the Directorate of Education at Lamphelpat in amidst of chaotic scenes.
Chairman, PDA, MLA Dr Kh Loken arrived at the venue around 9.30 prior to the scheduled timing of the inauguration of the function.
Not finding any higher officials of the department including, Principal Secretary, Commissioner and Director, he rushed out of the venue.
All other guests and officials except the Principal Secretary arrived at the venue after 11 am, much later than the scheduled time for the function.
Highly reliable source said that the Principal Secretary had instructed the officials to delay the celebration even though the reason of the delay was not confirmed.
Later Dr Kh Loken turned up at the venue and graced the function as chief guest.
Principal Secretary (Education) Dr J Suresh Babu presided over the function while Director, Education (S) Dr Y Rajen attended as guest of honour.
The function conferred State Teachers' Award 2011 to 12 teachers and presented laptops to eight meritorious students who excelled in the HSLCE-2011 and HSSLCE-2011 .
Floral tributes to the image of Dr Radhakrishnan were also paid as a part of the function.
Speaking in the occasion, Dr Kh Loken expressed serious concern over the deteriorating relation between a teacher and a student in today's society.
He urged the teachers to do their duty with a sense of obligation for the welfare of the students.
He also urged the students to develop good discipline and pay more attention in molding their careers.
Principal Secretary, Dr Suresh Babu said that the Department of Education (S) is all set to introduce biometric attendance project in all the schools of the state.
He said that the new venture of the department will give a boost to the students in their education and career.
He also expressed his desire to modify the present education policy in the state for a better future of education in the state.
Lhingnu Touthang, Headmistress of Gandhi Memorial Government High School, S Chaoba, Lecturer of Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School, O Ananda, Lecturer of Tamphasana Girls' Higher Secondary School, Soubam Sobita, Primary teacher of Heinoukhongnembi Primary School, Tokpam Yaipi Chanu, Primary teacher of Langthabal Phuramakhong Primary School, S Khai, Assistant teacher of Khongdei Ngawar School (SV), Angom Maipakpi, Arts Graduate teacher of Sekmai Khunou Kangjeibung Primary School, S Maniton of Jiribam Higher Secondary School, Md Abdul Halim, Arts Graduate Teacher of Lalpani High School, Ana Rumthao, Science Graduate Teacher of Model High School, CH Nishikanta, Arts Graduate Teacher of Thambalkhong Junior High School and S Sanatomba, Hindi Graduate Teacher of Azad High School were conferred the State Teachers' Award 2011 in the function.
Besides, Vijaya Sanasam, Khumanthem Maya, Devika Mangsatabam, Akoijam Subhash, Hatneihoi Haokip, Bhaskar Thingujam and CHingakham Rajendrakumar who excelled in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Examination 2011 and Prakash Khundrakpam who excelled in the High School Leaving Examination 2011 presented a laptop each as part of the function.
