CADA conducts awareness programme on drug abuse and its negative impact on society

As part of the ongoing campaign to cleanse the menace of drug abuse and alcoholism in different parts of the State by Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA), an awareness programme jointly organized by Laimanai Mamang Leikai Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup; The Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation (Thoubal Ima) and CADA Kakching District Committee was held on July 3 at around 2 pm at Laimanai Mamang Leikai Community Hall in Kakching District.
The programme was attended by Hijam Priyokumar, president, CADA; Laishram Bidhu, president, Laimanai Mamang Leikai Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup and Sapam Bimola, president, Thoubal Ima while Geetchandra Mangang, Secretary General CADA spoke at the programme as resource person.

Geetchandra Mangang said that in earlier times people residing in cities and towns used drugs on massive scale, however, now it is widely used by the youth in different parts of the State which is increasing day by day on rapidly.
Such dreaded abuse of substances should be stopped at any cost particularly the recent trend of using drugs through injection with active support from club members and meira paibees of each locality, he added.
The current trend of injecting drugs is dangerous as it may lead to muliplication of HIV/AIDS infected persons in the State due to sharing of syringes, he said and added that such tendency of using injecting drugs should be curbed immediately to keep away our society from the bleak future.
Hijam Priyokumar, president CADA criticized the unreasonable steep price hike of rice in the State and expressed apprehension that massive of use of indigenous rice in brewing local liquor may contribute in the price hike of local rice.
