Agriculture Minister inaugurates Organic Outlet

Agriculture Minister Thongam Biswajit inaugurated an Organic Outlet under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER) at Chingmeirong, Imphal East today.
The Outlet was opened by Nahakpam Food & Beverages, Manipur in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Th Biswajit said that the prolonged conflict has severely affected the socio-economic condition of the people.
He highlighted the escalating impact of the prevailing law & order situation on the agriculture sector and underscored the need for proactive measures.
The Minister shared that the MOVCDNER is a central sector scheme launched by the .Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare which aims at the development of organic value chains in the North East Region of India.
He continued that to promote organic farming in the State, a total of 13 Input Delivery & Custom Hiring Centers, with an investment of Rs 13 lakh each, have been opened at various districts including Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Chandel, Churchanpur, Kangpokpi, and Kakching.
The Minister also mentioned that 22 Collection, Aggregation and Grading Units have been established at Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Chandel, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Kakching and Ukhrul.
"Seed warehouses with an investment of Rs 7.5 lakh have also been established in Kakching and Bishnupur districts", he added.
Further, the Minister highlighted the importance of agriculture for the growth & development of the State and added that the Government is making all possible efforts to address the evolving challenges faced by the agriculture sector.
The inaugural function was also graced by Wangkhei AC MLA, Th Arunkumar; Commissioner of Agriculture, RK Dinesh Singh and Director of Agriculture, N Gojendro as presidium members.
