UCM calls for unity in diversity

UCM president Sunil Karam has called upon the indigenous communities of the State to promote the sense of belongingness while preserving their own cultures and traditions.
He was speaking as a presidium member during the 8th State Level Ching-tam Traditional Cultural Festival organized by Temple of Universal Peace Awareness cum Arts and Cultural Academy (TUPAACA) in partnership with All Manipur Huiyen Lalong and Traditional Culture Preservation Committee (AMHLTCPC) at Roop Mahal Theatre, today.
Alleging that the Central Government has been consistently trying to destroy the peace and harmony among the different communities in the State by means of various divisive policies, the UCM president opined that it is the need of the hour to reflect upon the fact that all the indigenous communities in the State belong to a common ancestor.
He also reiterated that the organization will never accept any policy based on ethnic lines or a particular community while maintaining that all the indigenous communities in the State have been living together since time immemorial with strong fraternal bonds.
Pointing out that political division among the communities has posed as serious threat to the State, Sunil observed that all the communities of the State share a common platform in the field of education, economy and other aspects.
South East Asia Cultural Organization member Kolom Achoubi, TUPAACA member Chanam Gambhir Singh among others also attended the function as presidium members .
