Minister fumes on high rate of fertilizers

In spite of the inadequate state quota of fertilizers as the Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation, Namrup stop producing Urea fertilizers, state government will be acquiring necessary fertilizers from the Indian Fertilizer Corporation Guwahati and the same will be reaching Imphal within the next two or three days said Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat today.
He also said that stern action will be taken up against those who are found selling the fertilizers at a higher rate.
Speaking to reporters in a press meet held at his office chamber at Secretariat, Imphal, Minister Parijat said that the total Urea quota of the state for the month of June is 8250 metric ton.
Out of the total quota, state has so far got only 1367 metric ton.
In order to make up the essential amount of fertilizers, Chief Secretary wrote a letter to the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers regarding the shortage.
As a result state government is allowed to acquire required fertilizers from the Indian Farmers' Fertilizers Corporation, Guwahati.
It may be mentioned the state cabinet had resolved to provide fertilizers to the farmers at a subsidized rate of Rs 420.However for the time being fertilizers will be available at a price of Rs 520 by the farmers from dealers.
He furthered appealed to the farmers to acquire a cash receipt while purchasing the fertilizers which should clearly mentioned the quantity of fertilizers purchased and the amount.
Government will later refund Rs 100 to the farmers for each bag of Urea purchased, he said.
