General strike disrupts normal life

Imphal, December 03 2011:
Normal life in Manipur was affected today on account of the 12-hour general strike called jointly by seven proscribed UG groups from 4 am to 4 pm to boycott the visit of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
The general strike was called by the Co-ordination Committee of KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK (Pro), RPF, UNLF and UPPK.
During the general strike, all the shops and business establishments including markets places remained shut in Imphal and its surrounding areas.
Inter-state and inter-district transports also stayed away from roads during the strike.
Schools, colleges and university also closed for the day.
Attendance in government offices was reported to be thin.
The flight service, however, was normal.
