Imphal, June 01 2014:
Waishel Marin Shemgatpa Lup (WMSL) today claimed a large portion of the drain falling under Thouda Bhabok Leikai has been made shrunken, apart from discovering thinner retaining wall.
Waishel Marin drains rainwater and waste liquids flowing in Keishamthong and Naoriya Pakhanglakpa constituencies in Imphal West.
Members of WMSL inspected the newly constructed retaining wall of the drain in Thouda Bhabok Leikai under Ward No-12 of the constituency.
During the inspection they found the size of the drain smaller than its actual size, apart from discovering thinner retaining wall which was constructed recently by the State Government.

Other portions of the retaining wall falling under Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai and others were also found constructed without maintaining quality control.
The wall could be broken easily when a little force was given on it, Naorem Devan, secretary general of WMSL told the media after the inspection.
It was also discovered that the upper portion of the wall had been smeared with just enough cement to make it look quality maintained construction, he claimed.
He said the State Government should have developed the retaining wall by maintaining quality and also keeping in mind of its actual breadth and length in due consideration of the quantity of the rainwater and waste liquid it has to carry.
Devan said the size of the Waishel Marin was very large earlier, but now it has become smaller with the construction of the retaining wall newly.
The present dimension of the drain would not be able to flow away rainwater and other waste matters from the two large constituencies and it would cause artificial flood in the area, he noted and appealed to the department concerned of the Government and the local MLAs to take up necessary corrective measures.
