Thoubal, May 31 2019: People in large number today thronged Nongpok Sekmai to Yairipok Inter Village Road (IVR) with JCB machine and dug up the road in retaliation to "ignorance" of the Government to reconstruct the road for years.

The road near Pechi Chinglak police out post was dug up because of the failure of the Government and authority concerned to meet the assurance given to the public on January 8, 2018, said Nongpok Sekmai Magic Association secretary Ashatomba today.

The road connects some tribal villages and is a vital road for locals.

Blaming the Government for the extreme action locals took today, he asserted that the public will continue to block the road until reconstruct work starts.

"The Govt has not shown interest as the area is far away from the capital city," he said blaming it for the grievances and inconveniences public face daily due to the condition of the deteriorated road.

Many organisations and locals had staged several protests and rallies in the past demanding Govt action, he added.
