Phouoibi Shayon to be shown at Shankar

Imphal, March 31 2017:
A Manipuri traditional film, Phouoibi Shayon, would be released on April 2, at Shankar T alkies, Lamphel.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the film's director, O Samananda said that the Manipuri feature film is a collaboration between Kanglei Movies World and Sergey Film Production.
He said, "In the modern society, there is an intense competition among the various religions of the world which has resulted in the extinction of many indigenous and small religions" .
He said that many youth often experience disappointment when they travel to other States and witness great monuments and temples of different faiths which easily eclipse the indigenous religion of the State adding that the film, Phouoibi Shayon, is his simple effort to contribute towards preserving and lifting "our
culture and traditions" .
The film tells the tale of an ancient time where and how celestial fairies descended on earth to help the people overcome the hardships caused due to shortage of food.
A low budget project, the film was shot in three days, a first in the State.
The film is a deviation from the modern commercial film of the State, he said adding that the film would also be uploaded to the internet and Youtube.
He further appealed the people to support these kinds of.
cultural and tradition based films and promised to produce many films based on Puya.
