Tengnoupal, December 31 2020:
Pointing fingers at many civil organisations including the 3.5 Collective which have been urging the Government to appeal the 2018 drug haul case in a higher Court, the Tengnoupal district Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) has asserted that the innocence of Lhukhosei Zou has been proven by the Court and civil bodies should not further subject him to another ordeal of shame and mental torture.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the demand of the civil bodies to go to a higher Court, the KSO in a statement said that the Court has already given its verdict after more than two and half years of thorough investigation and examination of all the facts and evidence.
As per the investigation, the Court had drawn the conclusion that Lhukhosei Zou was innocent and as such he was released.
The investigation also found the people who were actually guilty, it said and asked, "Why is it so difficult for these civil bodies to accept the Court judgement? Are these civil bodies above the Court of law?" .
The KSO Tengnoupal is always against illicit drug abuse and drug trafficking.
Over and above it is also a staunch defender of human rights and supporter of hapless innocent people.
The organisation had maintained a stoic silence over Lhukhosei's case all throughout the trials and proceedings because it has respect and trust for the Court of law, the body said adding "it is upto the Court to decide who is innocent or guilty" .
Vested interest groups or people have been feeding misleading and manipulative information about the case to the public to make Lhukhosei Zou seem guilty.
"The innocence of Lhukhosei Zou has been proven by the Court judgement order which runs to hundreds of pages of facts and evidences.
Therefore, the KSO Tengnoupal appeals to any civil body not to indulge in any action that would further subject an innocent man to another ordeal of shame and mental torture," it said.
Further, the KSO Tengnoupal is appalled by the attitude of the 3.5 Collective which demands appeal against the Court order of Lhukhosei Zou only.
If this civil body cares so much about the war on drugs why is it keeping mum on Additional SP Brinda, OC NAB and Investigating Officer of the chargesheeted case who were all involved in a drug case, trial No 13 of 2020 at Special Court Thoubal.
The Addl SP and OC NAB were acquitted in the case without any investigation.
It is irrational of the 3.5 Collective and other civil bodies not to demand an appeal against the Court order of these two officers.
Therefore, if the Home Department can appeal against the Court order of Lhukhosei Zou then it is prudent that it also appeal against the Court order of Addl SP Brinda Devi and OC NAB who were acquitted without any investigation.
The Home Department should use the same yardstick to everyone irrespective of the community they belong to, said KSO.
