Imphal, December 24:
Retired district and session judge C Upendra chairman of the inquiry commission looking into the June 18 and July 20 incidents, has approved the appearance of two journalists of a local daily Hueyen Lanpao to submit their statements before the commission concerning the death of one Rajkumar in CRPF firing on July 20 last.
The decision was taken by the chairman of the inquiry commission in exercise of section 4 of the commission of inquiry act.
The chairman has directed that the two journalists, who have already agreed to give their statements, should appear on January 3 next, 2002 before the commission.
It may be mentioned that the victims family has already lodged an application in the inquiry commission to carry out a proper inquiry into the incident in which the Rajkumar was said to have been killed by a bullet fired by the CRPF personnel.
It was also claimed that he was killed when the CRPF men fired directly at the crowd that had gathered on that day.
During the commission proceedings today, the chairman also ordered the CRPF counsels SK Sharma to complete cross examination on January 3 next when the evidence witness of the victims side with the two journalists come to give their statement in the inquiry commission.
The advocate of CRPF who was present before the commission, appealed for an extension because the main counsel, SK Sharma was out of station.
However, the chairman did not allow the proposal.
