Arms seized, hideouts busted

A number of weapons and ammunition have been seized and three hideouts have been busted in a series of operations carried out by the army, Assam Rifles and police.
Based on specific inputs about the presence of arms and ammunition in Ngariyan Hill of Imphal East district, army along with police recovered a light machine gun, a 12 bore single barrel gun, a pistol, two tube launchers, explosives, and ammunition on December 23, said a press release issued by PIB (DW) .
A joint search operation by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in Tengnoupal district on December 27 resulted in the recovery of a factory-made .303 Rifle, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and grenades.
The operation also led to the identification and busting of three hideouts on heights overlooking NH-102, it said.

On December 27 and 28, security forces received information about movement of arms on road towards Yaingangpokpi.
Army immediately established a check post on the road leading to Lamlong and carried out a thorough checking and recovered two double barrel and one single bore rifles from two vehicles.
The recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police for further investigation and disposal.
In Churachandpur district, a joint operation by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police resulted in identification of an under construction post astride NH-2 in K Lhanghnom Vangkho village on December 27 .
As the post is suspected to be used by miscreants, the area is being extensively patrolled and the structure was destroyed, said the PIB (DW) .
Meanwhile, a separate press release issued by Hqs IG AR (S) informed that Assam Rifles initiated a search operation on December 29 between the Thingphai and TS Laijang villages in Chandel district which led to the discovery of a concealed hideout.
A US-made M16 rifle, locally made lathod guns, an M16 rifle magazine, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), Motorola communication sets with chargers, 5.56mm ammunition rounds, pompi and lathod bombs were also recovered in the course of the search operation.
In another operation on December 26, Assam Rifles seized two high-powered assault rifles and apprehended two individuals under Op Changpol Khengjoi Sub-Division, Chandel.
The seized weapons included one AK-56 rifle and one Type 81 Chinese Assault Rifle along with three magazines.
The seized arms, explosives, and apprehended individuals have been handed over to the local police stations for further investigation and necessary legal action, IGAR (S) added.
