Lightning bandh on, highway blocked

Imphal, August 30 2014 :
In protest against the killing of two protesters in police firing at Ukhrul, a lightning bandh of 24 hours has been imposed in all Naga inhabited areas since 5 pm today.
On the other hand, Senapati Bazar was shut down at 5.30 pm and all vehicular movements along Imphal-Dimapur highway have been blocked at Senapati district headquarters.
Meanwhile, the UNC convened an emergency meeting this evening at Senapati district headquarters and they may announce their decisions tomorrow.

On learning about the violent confrontation, Chief Minister O Ibobi convened a high level meeting and deliberated on the unfolding situation.
Later in the evening, Chief Minister O Ibobi accompanied by a team of Ministers visited one injured victim at JNIMS.
It is reported that another high level meeting would be held tomorrow to review the prevailing situation in Ukhrul town.
