Imphal, July 30 2013:
Security forces escorting oil tankers, LPG bullets and other trucks along Imphal-Jiribam highway have been facing certain problems because of loading private goods like cement in the vehicles in which they were travelling in convoy .
Most of the oil tankers and loaded trucks which left Jiribam on July 29 with security escorts reached Imphal this evening.
According to some escort personnel, MR and IRB personnel drawn from different battalions and units went to Jiribam in several batches to escort loaded trucks back to Imphal.
At Jiribam, officials of some department loaded cement and other private goods in the vehicles in which they were to travel back to Imphal.
Although the matter was taken to the relevant authority, no response was forthcoming.
As such, the security escorts travelled in loaded trucks in groups of twos and threes.

For security forces to travel with just one or two colleague(s) is highly risky, particularly at those areas where UG cadres are present in significant numbers.
If the security personnel are made to travel in groups of twos or threes any longer, it would be pointless to provide security escorts to the trucks.
On the other hand, some transporters who were part of the convoys moving with security escorts complained that they did not feel safe as the number of security personnel assigned for escort duty is too little compared to the number of vehicles moving in a single convoy.
Out of 918 oil tankers and loaded trucks which left Jiribam last morning, around 120 vehicles including 30 petrol takers, 17 diesel tankers, two kerosene tankers and 16 LPG bullets reached Keithelmanbi till 3 pm today.
Some other vehicles are also expected to arrive here later in the evening.
With the sunk portion of NH-2 near Kohima yet to be restored, goods trucks and oil tankers have been taking the Imphal-Jiri route.
