Imphal, January 30 2024:
The State Government must convene an emergency Assembly session to discuss the present crisis and bring about a solution for peace, said veteran CPI leader and former Minister Dr M Nara.
He said this as members of CPI continued a 3-day hunger strike at Kakching Lamkhai today.
The Communist Party of India launched the hunger strike on January 28 .
During the hunger strike, Dr M Nara asserted that the State Government is not seen taking up serious measures to end the crisis and accused the double engine Government (BJP in the Centre and the State) of bringing more harm to the people.

The current crisis needs a "political solution".
It requires an emergency session of the State Assembly to hold a threadbare discussion.
Until steps to bring the solution are taken up, CPI will continue to put pressure on the Government, Dr M Nara said.
While the Constitution mandates at least 55 sessions, the State Assembly has held only one session that did not last one hour.
The current crisis is a State issue and as such it should be discussed in the Assembly, he said.
Dr M Nara said the Manipur issue has also not been discussed in the Parliament.
While all the legislators took oath of secrecy and swore to protect the State's integrity, 10 Kuki MLAs have openly sought to break Manipur.
However, no action has been initiated against these MLAs till today, he added.
The veteran politician further asserted that the value of democracy has been eroded by the present Government.
He said there is no transparency.
It is not clear whether Article 355 has been implemented in Manipur or not.
People are suffering because of the conflict.
The Central Government, as the host, should invite all stakeholders and start dialogues to bring peace, Dr M Nara said, reiterating that the State Government must convene an emergency Assembly session.
What the CPI is demanding is the legitimate right of the people, he said, listing a series of demands that include a political solution, no separate administration, return of displaced people to their original homes, implementation of NRC, border fencing and review of SoO agreement signed with Kuki militants.
CPI Manipur State Council leaders, L Sotinkumar, S Sorojini, M Joykumar and others took part in the hunger strike.
