Moirang, April 28 2025: Amid a buzz of another possible round of talk between Kuki and Meitei civil society organisations, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) appears to have rejected any talk orchestrated by the Government of India at present.

"As long as India cowers behind Kuki narco-terrorists,' who have attacked Meiteis, there will not come a condition for peace talk," COCOMI secretary (org) YK Dhiren said in a strongly worded address to the public at Kumbi in Bishnupur district today.

YK Dhiren was speaking at a public meeting at Kumbi Lai Esing Chaibi Harao Shanglen.

The meeting was one of many, COCOMI and local organisations have been organising leading up to a scheduled major public convention on May 3 at Khuman Lampak.

Addressing the people at the meeting, YK Dhiren hinted that the committee doubts the Government's sincerity in holding any talk between Meitei and Kuki CSOs .

"The Ministry has sent an invite for a talk between Kuki and Meitei CSOs, but COCOMI will not participate in the talk easily.

The invite is simply an attempt to disguise themselves," YK Dhiren said, hinting that the committee may not attend the talk.

Since Manipur's merger with the Union of India till today, the indigenous people of the State have not been given their full rights, enshrined in the country's Constitution, Dhiren said.

The people of the State and especially the internally displaced people have been denied the fundamental rights amid the conflict, he asserted.

Speaking at the meeting, COCOMI co-convenor Y Surjitkumar Khuman also echoed the same concern and asserted that the Government of India has suppressed the rights of the indigenous people.

The indigenous people of the State have not been given their Constitutional rights and protection, he said.

He appealed to the people to attend the May 3 public convention at Khuman Lampak and take resolutions on the Manipur conflict.

Meira Paibis, representatives of several organisations and locals attended the meeting.

Similar meetings were also organised at Bishnupur Thiyam Leikai Community Hall, Kabowakching, Tera Lukram Leirak, Wangkhei Keithel Asangbi, Singjamei Chirom Leikai and Haobam Marak Irom Leikai.

The conflict will complete 2 years on May 3, 2025 .

The conflict since May 3, 2023 has killed over 250 persons and displaced over 60,000 people.

Several persons including school going children, suspected to have been killed by Kuki militants, are still missing and some families have gone ahead with performing the last rite using pangon.
