Twin bandh cripples normal life

Imphal, April 28 2016:
The Statewide bandh called by the JAC against the brutal killing of B Pitaranjan (Korabin) and the indefinite bandh imposed along the Singjamei-Lilong bridge stretch of Imphal-Moreh Highway by JAC constituted against the death of Sagolsem Prashanta of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai crippled normal life today.
There are also reports of several vehicles being damaged during the bandh.
All inter-district passenger services stayed off the roads though a few number of private vehicles related with emergency and religious activities were seen plying.
Business establishments and educational institutions remained closed for the day although few office goers were seen.
Khwairamband bazar, the business hub of the capital wore a deserted look.

To prevent any untoward incident, a large number of police personnel were seen deployed in and around Imphal area.
Supporters of the bandhs blocked roads at many places by placing tree branches, logs and burning tyres in Imphal East areas.
Business activities came to a standstill at Lamlong keithel, Konung Mamang, Checkon, Andro Parking and other areas.
While the indefinite general strike along the Singjamei-Lilong bridge stretch called by the JAC constituted against the death of Sagolsem Prashanta of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai prevented any form of vehicular movement.
One of the busiest roads today wore a deserted look with no vehicle on the road for the third consecutive day.
Vehicles related with medical emergency or religious activities were given free passage though.
A large number of bandh supporters was seen in the locality of the deceased showing their support to the indefinite strike.
It may be mentioned that Bachaspatimayum Pitaranjan (Korabin) Sharma (22) s/o B Shantikumar Sharma of Nongmeibung, Old Checkon bazar was found dead on April 24 at Kangkum village in Ukhrul district after he left home to visit a friend (a girl) on April 19 morning.
On the other hand, Sagolsem Prashanta alias Abung (24) was found hung at Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai on April 26 in a suspicious manner.
Meanwhile, JAC constituted against the death of Prashanta has said that it would continue its bandh clamped on NH-2 from Singjamei to Lilong bridge.
It demanded the Government to conduct post mortem examination of Prashanta's body with full video coverage.
