State primed to enforce ILPS

Chief Minister N Biren Singh presided a meeting today and deliberated on effective enforcement of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in Manipur from January 1, 2020.However, the meeting could not come to a conclusion regarding a specific base year for the system.
According to an official source, following the issuance of a Gazette notifi- cation signed by the President of the country, where- by ILPS was extended to Manipur on December 11, the State Government has started taking up measures for strict and effective implementation of the system in the State.
The meeting, which was held at the CM Secretariat today evening, was also attended by Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu, DGP LM Khaute, DCs and SPs concerned.
It was decided that the DCs will issue the ILP passes and that the passes will be available at Mao, Jiribam, Jesami, Behiang, Moreh, Singjol, Manipur Bhavans and the airport.
The source continued that a temporary pass for 15 days (which can be extended if necessary) will cost Rs 100 while labourers can procure a 6 months pass for the same amount of money (Rs 100) and frequent visitors/investors etc can procure a 6 months pass at the cost of Rs 1000.Stating that the meeting failed to decide on a specific base year for the ILPS, the source explained that the decision for the base year will be taken by the State Government.
The source further informed that an orientation programme for the staff of DCs and SPs concerned will be held at 1st MR on December 30 in connection with the ILPS.
It may be recalled that when Union Home Minister introduced the Citizenship Amendment Bill (now Citizenship Amendment Act) in the Parliament on December 9, he announced that ILPS will be extended to Manipur.
