Imphal, November 27 2011:
The observation committee of the International Fortnight Observation Protesting Violence Against Women has demanded the Government to produce a white paper on the number of cases pertaining to crime against women for which charge-sheets have been framed.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, member of the observation committee Ambrabati Takhelchangbam condemned the alleged murder of pregnant women on the opening day of the International Fortnight Observation Protesting Violence Against Women followed by the rape of a mute woman on the next day.
She demanded that all the culprits should be given befitting punishment according to law.
She demanded the Government to produce a white paper on the number of cases relating to crimes against women and against which charge-sheets have been framed.
Establishment of a special investigation team for investigation into crimes against women, completion of all pending cases related to crimes against women, punishment of guilty persons and full implementation of laws enacted to prevent crimes against women were the other demands raised by Ambrabati.
Another member of the committee, Babita decried the reconciliation between two families after a polio inflicted handicapped girl was raped.
Rather than reconciling to the bestial crime, the accused should have been awarded befitting punishment, Babita asserted.
