Imphal, August 27 2022:
Many quarters have raised some serious questions on the implementation of the Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in the State.
PMUY was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1, 2016 with the primary objective of replacing firewood with LPG for cooking food.
The same scheme was launched in the State on June 5, 2017 .
Beneficiaries of PMUY must be BPL families and during the first phase of the scheme, they must pay the prices of LPG refill and gas stove.
If they could not pay these prices, they could take the refill and the stove on loan, and the loan amount would be adjusted against the subsidy given by the Government on LPG refills.
The second phase of PMUY known as Ujjwala 2.0 was launched on August 10, 2021 .
Now, beneficiaries need not pay a single rupee for LPG connection under Ujjwala 2.0 .

However, there are reports of some LPG distri- butors allegedly collecting money from beneficiaries in the name of providing LPG connections under Ujjwala 2.0 which otherwise should be done free of cost.
Sources informed that some LPG distributors of IOCL have been allegedly collecting Rs 2300 each for LPG connection under Ujjwala 2.0 .
Some other distributors have been allegedly charging Rs 1500 each.
Some distributors have also been charging Rs 400 as processing fee.
As majority of the people have focused their attention on Ujjwala 2.0, normal LPG connection has almost ceased.
As such, some LPG distributors have been making every effort, including unethical and unlawful ones, to register as many PMUY beneficiaries as possible as their consumers.
Some consumers have filed complaints at the IOCL Sales Officer as well as police regarding the unethical and unlawful means employed by some LPG distributors to register maximum PMUY beneficiaries as their consumers.
However, there is no report of taking up any action against the wrongdoers, informed the sources.
Notably, the All Manipur Indane Distributors' Association has already appealed to all the people not to pay any money or give documents if any one comes to their doors and offer LPG connection under PMUY.
The association also appealed to all the people to go to their nearest LPG distributors instead if they wish to obtain LPG connection under PMUY without paying any money.
