Imphal, August 27 2013:
The construction of the Integrated Check Post at Moreh Gate Number 1, which has been stopped mid-way due to intervention by Myanmarese authority following dispute along Indo-Myanmar border, was inspected by Governor Dr Ashwini Kumar today.
Briefing the visiting Governor about the halt in the construction work, Brigadier Rajiv Mankotia, DIG 26 Assam Rifles, informed that due to the prevailing dispute over some areas along the Indo-Myanmar border, Myanmarese authority has obstructed construction of the Integrated Check Post and it has been stopped mid-way.

Later, a meeting was conducted at the conference hall of Moreh Trade Centre where the Governor took part along with various public leaders of Moreh.
Volunteers of All Minority Women Development Society, Moreh; Kuki Women Human Rights' Organisation, Moreh; Manipur Muslim Council, Moreh; Nupi Khunnai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Moreh; Hills Tribal Council, Moreh; Meitei Council, Moreh; Tamil Sangam, Moreh; Border Town Chanber of Commerce, Moreh and Kha-Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Moreh were also present during the meeting.
Among those who spoke during the meeting, Ginsei Lungdin, Vice President of Hill Tribal Council, stated that there is no use of the present border fencing if it is only security fencing and the State Government should clearly identify the actual boundary by setting up a survey team and inspect the border fencing process being carried out.
Mayanglambam Thoiba, President of Meitei Council, Moreh, pointed out that a large chunk of Manipur's land has been lost to Myanmar on account of the 'faulty' border fencing being carried out.
If it is allowed to continue, then, half of the total area of Moreh would go to Myanmar.
He went on to point out that even if the authorities of the State Government have visited the disputed area, nothing worthwhile has been taken up by the Government till today.
With exception to border pillar no 79, the location of all other border pillars is in dispute.
As such, the State Government should carry out a thorough enquiry and solve the problems being faced by the people along the International border, he urged.
After listening to the grievances raised by the public leaders, Governor Dr Ashwini Kumar stated that Moreh is just like an international town.
The border dispute along Indo-Myanmar border in some parts of Moreh is a fact known not only to the Manipur Government but also to the Indian Government.
As such, the government would be taking up all necessary steps for the welfare of the people.
He also pointed out the need to develop connectivity and telecommunication in Moreh town and said that reliable communication facilities should be made available.
