Modalities of assessing Class X, XII students spelt out

With the State Government cancelling the Class X and Class XII board exams this year, the modalities of assessing the performance of students and grading them have been finally worked out.
For students in Class X, the bench mark is 100, and out of this 20 marks will come from internal assessment, 30 marks from the previous class, that is Class IX exam and 50 marks will be considered on the basis of the performance of the students in pre-board exams (term test and periodic test) conducted in their respective schools.
For Class XII, 30 marks will be awarded on the basis of the Class X record (three best subjects), 20 marks from Class XI and 50 marks from Class XII test exams conducted by the respective schools.
Students who are not satisfied with the marking modalities can approach the officials concerned and special exams will be arranged for those students later.

Announcing this during a press meet, Education Minister S Rajen Singh said that the assessment criteria were prepared by a 14 member committee headed by the Director of Education (S) and aided by two sub-committees headed by Chairman of COHSEM and another one by Chairman of BOSEM.
He said that the total number of candidates who had registered for Class X (BOSEM) exam, 2021, is 44068 from 962 schools registered under BOSEM, including both private and Government schools.
Toppers of the exams will not be announced this year, he added.
A total of 29,517 students have registered for COHSEM (Class XII) exam 2021, he added.
For casual students, 70% of the mark will be based on the three best subjects in Class XI and the remaining 30% will be given on the basis of three best subjects of Class X .
For private candidates assessment will be based on the three best subjects in Class X.Marking for Class XI will be based on marks scored in Class X examination, performance in weekly tests, assignment and attendance records, he added.
Regarding students who could not submit application forms in time due to the Covid pandemic, the Minister informed that the Education Department alone cannot take a decision in this regard.
The matter will be referred to the Cabinet.
He said that as there is an order of the Supreme Court to announce the results of Class X and XII before July 31, the Department is planning to announce Class XII result by July 24 and that of Class X by July 31 .
On the demand of FEGOCTA, the Minister said the 7th Pay demand from June 30 is reasonable.
However, as the department has forwarded all relevant documents to the Finance Department following the MoU signed with the Chief Minister, he appealed to FEGOCTA to suspend the protest slated to start from June 30 including cancellation of all online classes.
Commissioner (Education) M Harekrishna, Director, Education (S) L Nandakumar Singh, Deputy Secretary, Education, T Phulen Meitei, Chairmen and Secretaries of COHSEM and BOSEM, Controllers of Examinations and other officials were also present during the press meet.
