Thoubal, May 26 2024:
The State Government has stopped the construction of an unauthorised bridge across Manipur River near K Molnom Village in Chandel, today.
Notably, a team of Government officials went to inspect the bridge construction work which was done without taking any approval from the Government yesterday but they were stopped by a large number of Kuki women near Sinam Khul by placing heavy objects.
But today, a team which included Additional SP of Chandel Chamna Anal, Chakpikarong SDO Tajaudhin, Inspector Palung and Officer in-charge of Waikhong police station Zaqao reached the site of the bridge and placed a fresh ban on the construction.
The team accompanied by the personnel of BSF and 37 Assam Rifles went to the bridge site after a lengthy talk with the protesting Kuki women at Sinam Khul.
The Kuki women were also warned not to obstruct the Government officials on duty.
When the officials reached the site, five/six pillars were found already erected to build the bridge across Manipur River.
The team asked the people in the area to halt the construction until they get approval from the Government and the latter reportedly agreed.
