Imphal, November 25 2016:
Taking strong exception to the incident of November 24 wherein two hill persons came to the office of the United Committee Manipur under the claim that they are from Nagaland police and asked the whereabouts of UCM activists as well asked for the list of the office bearers of UCM, the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) today said that this was the conduct of some anti-social elements.
In a statement, AMUCO said that such an act could have been conducted only by those who want to engineer the fragmentation of Manipur.
The State Government should take note of the disturbing incident, said AMUCO and added that it should spare no efforts to verify whether it was done by any State or non-State actors under an agenda.
Since the two identified themselves as policemen from Nagaland, it would be good for the Government of Nagaland to come out with a statement on the matter, said AMUCO.
This is important, because there have emerged some elements who want to sow seeds of suspicion between different communities in Manipur, said the statement.
The matter did not blow into a major issue because at the time when the two visited the office of UCM, only the caretaker was present, said AMUCO.
The statement reasoned that if the other members of UCM, who are mostly Meiteis, were present then the issue could have been misinterpreted by some vested interest elements who may go to the extent of stating that the majority Meiteis had ill treated the two persons because they are from the hills.
Stating that the State Government need to make the intelligence agencies more efficient, AMUCO said that the present situation is such that any vested interest people may sow the seeds of suspicion which may give rise to unwanted developments.
