Tupul to Imphal rail line gets Committee nod

Imphal, October 25 2012:
The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure today approved the proposal of the Ministry of Railways to extend the new broad gauge line from Tupul to Imphal.
The updated cost of the entire project is Rs 4444 crores which would be funded 25 per cent by the General Budgetary Support (GBS) for Railways and 75 per cent by the Ministry of Finance.
The project is expected to be completed by March 2016.Meanwhile, an expenditure of Rs 682 crores was incurred till March 31, 2011 .

Once the Jiribam-Imphal railway line is completed, Imphal would have railway connectivity with the national mainstream.
It would also make possible direct movement of freight as well as passengers from this region to other parts of the country, said a PIB press release.
