Striking a chord with the spirit of the observance and the day, Chief Minister N Biren raised the Congress Mukt cry and called out to the people to ensure that the Congress party is not given another chance to return and form the Government.
As observed all over the country, the 46th Black Day, the day that the late Indira Gandhi imposed Emergency suspending the rights of the people enshrined in the Constitution, was observed at the State unit BJP office at Nityaipat Chuthek.
It was in the intervening nights of June 25 and June 26 in 1975 that the then Prime Minister Late Indira Gandhi invoked Emergency and imposed it across the Nation.
The BJP has been observing the day as Black Day to denounce the suspension of people's rights enshrined in the Constitution of India.
Addressing the observation of the day via video conference the Chief Minister said that democracy was violated and given a tight slap from 1975 till 1977 when the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi suspended all fundamental rights of the people by imposing the Emergency.
It was during this period that the rights of the people were suspended and there was police raj, added the Chief Minister.
Prominent political leaders like Atal Behari Vajpayee and LK Advani were jailed during this period, recalled the Chief Minister.
Recalling the founding president of the BJP, the Chief Minister said that Shyama Prasad Mukherjee went to Kashmir to point that there cannot be two flags of India and no two Constitution.
Moreover he stood against Article 370, recalled N Biren.
The sacrifices of such leaders cannot and should not be forgotten, he added.
The Chief Minister said that he is proud to be a member of the BJP, which has produced such leaders who stood against the design of Indira Gandhi during the Emergency.
Now with the dawn of 7 years in office of the Narendra Modi Government, all section of the people have been taken together in the march towards development, added N Biren.
It is the driving philosophy of the BJP that all are citizens of this country, irrespective of caste, creed and colour and this makes the Narendra Modi Government unique and special, said the Chief Minister and added that he is proud to be associated with the BJP.
It should be the bounden duty of everyone not to let the Congress, which robbed the country and the people of all their rights, return to power under any circumstances, added the Chief Minister.
Lok Sabha MP Dr RK Ranjan and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba took part in the video conference while at the BJP office, former State BJP president M Bhorot, general secretary of the BJP and in charge of Manipur and Nagaland (organisation), Abhay Kumar and general secretary of BJP (administration) L Deben and other party leaders were present.
