Cabinet okays release of Covid liabilities

The State Cabinet has given its consent to release pending bills for different works taken up by the State Government in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic.
With Chief Minister N Biren in the chair, a Cabinet meeting was held in the Chief Minister's Secretariat at around 5 pm today.
The meeting unanimously agreed to release all the pending liabilities which were incurred in the process of executing different works in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic.
Briefing media persons after the meeting, Works, IPR and Power Minister Th Biswajit said that the State Cabinet has decided to release pending bills for expenditures incurred in the process of executing different works related to the Covid-19 pandemic as the same expenditures were made to save human lives.
The Cabinet also gave approval to purchase oxygen concentrators and other equipment necessary for combating the Covid-19 pandemic.
The meeting agreed on finalisation of the rules drafted for Sections 7 and 8 of the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014 .
As decided at the Cabinet meeting, landless households would be given 0.20 acre in rural areas and 0.10 acre in urban areas at the rate of Rs 250 and Rs 500 per square metre respectively, Biswajit said.
In addition to Government colleges, higher secondary schools and high schools, Government hospitals would be equipped with State Wide Area Network (SWAN) facilities, he conveyed.
The State Cabinet also decided to establish Manipur Technology Innovation Hub in collaboration with the Bhubanashwar based Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology-Business Technology Incubator.
Another Cabinet decision adopted this evening was upgradation, relocation and establishment of health centres in Churachandpur, Pherzawl, Ukhrul, Senapati and Kangpokpi, Biswajit said.
Accordingly, many PHSCs would be upgraded to PHCs and PHCs to CHCs in addition to setting up new health centres.
The State Cabinet also agreed to draft the Manipur MBBS/BDS/BASLP (Selection of Candidates for Nomination) Rules 2021 which would replace the Manipur MBBS/BDS Entrance Examination (Selection of Candidates for Nomination) Rules 2004, according to the IPR Minister.
As decided at the meeting, the State Government would sign a lease agreement with the JNIMS Society for opening a cancer hospital at JNIMS, he said.
The meeting also agreed to keep the State-owned Hotel Imphal under the care and management of the Classic Group of Hotels.
Sources informed that the Cabinet meeting also agreed to remove Ward No 9 from the Thoubal Lilong Municipal Council and bring it under Arapti-Urup Gram Panchayat within the jurisdiction of Imphal East Zilla Parishad.
