Cong names 40 candidates in first list

Imphal, January 22 2022:
As announced that the first list of candidates of the Congress may likely be announced before January 25, the All India Congress Committee today announced the names of 40 candidates in the first list.
The list of 40 candidates has at least 11 sitting MLAs in the current Assembly with former Chief Minister O Ibobi leading the list from Thoubal Assembly Constituency.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has also been named from his home turf of Nungba Assembly Constituency.

The other sitting Congress MLAs who have been named in the list include former Speaker Th Loke-shwar Singh (Khundrakpam AC), Akoijam Mirabai Devi (Patsoi AC), Nameirakpam Loken Singh (Nambol AC), Keisham Meghachandra Singh (Wangkhem AC), Surjakumar Okram (Khangabok AC), Kangujam Ranjit Singh (Sugnu AC), Alfred Kanngam S Arthur (Ukhrul AC), DD Thaisii (Karong AC) and TN Haokip (Saikot AC) .
A second list of the Congress is likely to come out soon, sources said.
On the other hand, the BJP is expected to come out with the first list of candidates after January 25 .
Already a number of BJP leaders are camping at New Delhi to discuss the finalisation of the candidates list.
Manipur will go to polls on February 27 and March 3 .
